!Help File for !2048 v1.10
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
!2048 is a disk usage counter that takes into account the
fact that under RISC OS each directory uses 2k of disk space
(hence the name). Its user interface is very similar to that
provided by the Filer_Action module in RO3. To size a
directory, drag it to the icon on the iconbar.
The menu option `Subdirs' toggles the recursive sizing of
subdirectories. `Sectors' toggles rounding of the filesize
up to a whole number of sectors and leads to a submenu where
you can choose the sector size. (1024 bytes per sector is
the default as it's the sector size for D, E and F format.
256 bytes is the size for L format floppies, but who uses
them anymore ;-)
You can change the default by editing !2048.!Run as follows:
change the 4 in the line `Run <2048$Dir>.!RunImage 4' to
1, 2, 3, or 4 to make 128, 256, 512 or 1024 the default
sector size.
!2048 will only do one directory at a time. It is also not
entirely accurate as a measure of available free space, as
it doesn't take into account fragmentation of the file.
I have run into problems using this to count a directory
containing a Sparkive that had a 10-char filename when I
had !SparkFS running; but as you want to know the size of
the archive, not its contents, then I suggest quitting from
!SparkFS before running !2048 on such a directory.
!2048 is RISC OS 3 *only*. It is also FREEWARE, but we
retain the copyright. No warranty is given nor implied.
